I've heard that expression from non-JW's. But I was also thinking that one could say this regardless of their belief about an "afterlife". Even if one is an atheist they believe that they will be dead, hence eternal death will be their "home". Maybe that's a stretch? I don't know. Just a thought.

Have you known dying persons to use the expression "going home"?
by JimmyPage ina close relative of mine has reached the last days of their life and has been talking about "going home".
this seems unusual when you consider that they have been a jw for many years and this would not seem to jive with their belief of being resurrected to live on the earth forever.
i'll grant you that they have acted quite confused much of the time as they draw closer to their end.

Did you Fade Gradually or Stop Attending Meetings Quickly ? Reasons ?
by flipper inbeen thinking about this and curious about what makes us all come to the decisions we came to in our fade/exiting the jw organization.. i think for myself having been born-in & raised a jw my doubts about the generation doctrine had simmered for years within me quietly and by the time i finally left in 2003 i had reached my breaking point.
also seeing unjust treatment of rank & file witness ( myself included ) just propelled me into my decision even quicker.
so - one day after meeting with 3 elders in a back room before a meeting and seeing their judgmental aggression towards me - i just told myself " enough is enough ".

My original plan was for a gradual fade of about 2 years. However, the elders were getting suspicious after I resigned from my positions in the organization. So, during the meeting I decided to leave. On the way home I decided to never return. It's been over a year now. So far, so good. In fact that very day I posted here for the first time, and I can thank many on this board for their suggestions that have helped me navigate this road.

Suggest a coffee maker, please
by cameo-d ini can expect my coffee pots to malfunction usually about the time the year warranty runs out.
i have gotton the coffeemakers at jip*lmart for the last 10 years or more; none have lasted much longer than a year..ok maybe 18 months at the most.. anyway, since it stopped brewing, i have just been pouring hot water from stovetop over the coffee grinds....sort of the melita way, but it doesn't exactly f l o w like a melita.. i would like to have something non-electric like melita, but i hate that name now because it reminds me of jacarass's ill tempered wife.. can anyone recommend a good coffee maker?.
also, do you find any difference in the quality of a name brand product when it's sold at jip*mart as opposed to a place more upscale?.

Cuisinart gets very high marks on quality and customer satisfaction from Consumer Reports. Also, if you like the single cup idea I think the Keurig is the hottest thing out there now. I have both, but lately use only the Keurig because I don't end up wasting any coffee.

What do y'all do on your JW baptism anniversary?
by serenitynow! inmine is 10/23.
i used to use that day to ponder the state of my jw spirituality, make goals, feel guilty, etc.
this is my first exjw baptism anniversary.. does anyone have any fun suggestions to commemorate an un-baptism?.

Wow, Serenitynow! What a coincidence that you posted this. Mine is today (10/22). I used to think of it as an important day. But this is the first year that it would probably have completely slipped my mind. But your post reminded me. Crazy coincidence.

Has anyone successfully faded without moving out of the territory?
by NiceDream inso far i've managed to avoid speaking to the elders who drop by.
just wondering if they'll eventually give up in a couple years.
anyone have experience with this?.

So far so good on the acclerated-fade. Resigned as elder about a year and a half prior to completely leaving in 2009. Requested to be left alone because I was doing fine. No need to keep checking on me.

Any E reader people here?
by highdose ini'm thinking of getting an e reader but have never used this medium before.
does anyone have any recomends?.
also is there any p2p file sharing sites for e reader files?.

Good points, brotherdan. I had a PDF of the elders manual ("Pay Attention..."), and a copy of Captives of a Concept that I bought online that I was able to load on it.

I have a Kindle and love it. I spent about 6 months trying to decide between the Nook and the Kindle. The main reason Kindle won out was because Amazon carried far more of the ebooks that I was considering. I also decided that I didn't want it to feel like another electronic device. I have enough of them already. The Nook's color touch-screen made it feel like another electronic device. The Kindle felt more like a book. I added a leather cover which completed the effect.

Blondie, you're amazing! While I was busy typing in the meager results of my effortless research you had already beat me to it, and even found what my index missed.
